HAMILTON (AP) — The former Ravalli County treasurer, who is being sued by the county for failing in her official duties, has lost her home to foreclosure.

Bitterroot Valley Bank submitted the winning bid of $189,000 during Thursday’s sheriff’s sale of a double-wide trailer and 9 acres of land being purchased by Valerie Stamey and her husband, Richard.

The bank foreclosed after the Stameys failed to make payments on their mortgage. They have a year to redeem the property by coming up with the sale price, plus interest.

Sheriff’s office clerk Carla Larson says the bank planned to take immediate possession of the property.

Stamey was appointed interim treasurer in September 2013 and put on paid leave in January after she failed to deposit tax payments and file reports.
