Soccer: Flathead, Glacier, C-Falls girls all settle for ties

HELENA — Jaymee Sieler gave Flathead a 1-0 lead late in the first half, but Helena High countered with a goal by Katie Martin in the 57th minute as the two Western AA soccer foes battled to a 1-1 tie.
Zoe Zander had six keeper saves for the Bravettes, who play Helena Capital today.
Helena had 14 shots on goal, twice as many as Flathead. Both teams had three corner kicks.

HELENA — Back-to-back goals midway through the second half spotted Glacier a 2-1 lead, but Capital slipped a goal in with a minute to play to force a tie in Western AA action.
Cadie Williams and Ellie Stevens scored goals for Glacier.
Capital, with 13 shots on goal, had three more than Glacier and led in corner kicks 2-0.
Amy Braig had six keeper saves for Glacier, who plays Helena High today.

COLUMBIA FALLS — The six-time Class A defending state champion Billings Central Rams had to settle for a scoreless tie with a determined Columbia Falls squad.
“We did, especially in the second half,” Columbia Falls coach Greg Trenerry said of scoring opportunities.
“Maybe two or three. They had some good ones, too.”
Columbia Falls hosts Laurel today.
“I’m somewhat happy with the results,” he said.
“We played a really good team, a well-coached team. My defense stepped up, or forwards pressured.”

LIBBY — Shyla Stevenson gave Libby the early lead, scoring four minutes into play off an assist by Shannon Reny, but Laurel retaliated with the next four, all in the first half, to claim the Class A nonconference victory.

LIVINGSTON — It didn’t take long for Whitefish to get on the board, but a late surge by Livingston required another Haley Nicholson goal to give the Bulldogs the Class A nonconference victory.
Grace Kurtz netted the first goal just three minutes into the contest. Three minutes later Nicholson scored her first goal of the match and Whitefish had an early 2-0 lead.
The Rangers evened the score on Chelsey Woods’ goal in the 61 minute, but Anna Peterson assisted Nicholson’s game-winner with two minutes to play.
“We fought hard all game. They were able to put two in on us, but we fought to the very end,” Whitefish coach Wendy Farrens said.
Whitefish is back in action today at noon against the Belgrade Panthers.

The Bengals, up 1-0 at the half, scored three times in the final half.
Josh Osborne recorded six keeper saves for the Braves.

LIVINGSTON — Three second-half goals by Jared Johnson, a senior midfielder, gave Whitefish the Class A nonconference win over Livingston.
Livingston scored in the final minute on a penalty kick.
“It was a stalemate at halftime,” Whitefish coach O’Brien Byrd said.
“We had a slow start.”

COLUMBIA FALLS — Braedon Trunkle scored in the 31st-minute to lift the Billings Central Rams past the Columbia Falls Wildcats for a Class A nonconference victory.
The Rams outshot the Wildcats 6-2 on goal and held on for the shutout.
“We made a few mistakes in the back and it cost us a goal,” Wildcats head coach Peter Browne said.
“It was a pretty even game. We need to possess the ball and take care of the ball a little better, but the kids fought hard.”
The Wildcats host Laurel today at noon.
