MOSES LAKE - Grant County Republican Party State Committeeman Casey Cooper will run for Grant County Treasurer against incumbent Daryl Pheasant in the November elections.

Cooper did not intend to run at first. He tried to recruit other Republicans to run against Pheasant in the primaries.

"After looking for a candidate, with no luck, I decided to run a write-in campaign myself," Cooper said.

Cooper garnered enough votes to land on the ballot for the general election this November.

"My plan is to bring transparency to the office, with fresh perspective, honesty, and updated procedures," he said.

Cooper is the father of two teenage children and has been married to his wife Christina for 19 years. He is active in his church as a Sunday School teacher and is a leader in Royal Rangers.

Royal Rangers is a mentoring program for boys grades K-12, developed in Springfield, Mo. and is now used worldwide.

Cooper grew up just west of Eugene, Ore. He has lived in Moses Lake for four years, serving as the Republican State Committeeman for the last 2 years

Cooper has a degree in Business Administration from Western Colorado University. He served in the United States Navy and has been a volunteer fire fighter, paramedic, and instructor.

"I want to bring customer service to the office, with the voters being the first concern of the office and the bureaucracy second," he said. "I also want to employ some of the features from the 21st century being used by the counties around us to update and modernize the treasurer's office."
