The Morely magic, on display at Saturday’s Flathead Invitational at Rebecca Farm, continues to dominate the Montana cross-country scene.

With Bigfork senior Makena Morley, a three-time Flathead Invitational champion resting up for the Mountain West Classic in Missoula next weekend, younger sister Bryn took home the girls individual title moments before her brother, Logan, was crowned the boys champion.

Bryn, a freshman, posted a personal best time of 17:11.9 in the three-mile race.

“I was really happy with my time. That’s the best I’ve ever done,” she said. “There was extra motivation at the finish line. I wanted to have a strong finish just like (Logan).”

Logan, a junior, was overtaken by Missoula Sentinel’s Marshall Beatty with just over 100 meters to go, but it was all part of the plan as Logan cruised past Beatty on the home stretch to win by a full second, finishing in 15:37.4.

“I knew he was pretty strong at the end,” Logan Morley said.

“I let him get ahead of me knowing I had enough to overtake him at the finish. It was a great course and I’m happy with how I did.”

While Bryn imitated her brother’s strong finish, it was almost unnecessary. Glacier freshman Annie Hill was the second overall finisher in the girls race, crossing the finish line nearly 17 seconds behind Morely.

Although she didn’t win, Hill was excited about her time of 17:28.9, which was a personal best.

“I wish I had gone a little faster on the last mile, but I was pretty happy,” Hill said.

“This was my first race with Morely. She’s good. She’s really good and I can’t wait to race Makena.”

Hill’s second place finish led the Wolfpack, but its team score wasn’t enough to overcome the Flathead Bravettes, who took home the girls team title.

Kaitlin Wride and Lauren Clarke finished in third and fourth place, respectively, before Elizabeth Thompson and Nicole Bouma came in eighth and 10th place for Flathead.

“Kaitlin, a freshman, is super strong and Lauren Clark, a transfer student from Nebraska, has embraced being a Bravette. She did awesome,” Flathead coach Jesse Rumsey said.

“I thought Elizabeth and Nicole were very solid in our third and fourth spots for the team.”

The Wolfpack boys team denied a Flathead sweep, edging out the Braves in team scoring to win the title.

Brock Sandry was the highest Glacier finisher, coming in third overall with a time of 16:09.6. He was followed up by Ruben Castren, seventh place, and Tevyn Stetson, eight place.

“I thought the pack did good,” Glacier coach Mike McLean said.

“I though the boys ran really well today. We we’re pleased. We had a hard week in practice and we’ll back off a bit this next week.”

Flathead’s boys were led by Jake Perrin, sixth, Sylas Schutt, ninth, and Jacob Calles, 10th.
