Soccer roundup: C-Falls boys pick up first win

COLUMBIA FALLS — Brandon Karberg turned in another stellar performance in goal, Keenan Jessap scored his first goal of the season and Columbia Falls beat Laurel 1-0 in Class A nonconference boys soccer action on Saturday.
Jessap’s goal came in the 62nd minute. Dylan Delventhal had the assist.
Karberg had five saves.
“One of our strong points,” Columbia Falls coach Peter Browne said of his goal keeper.
“Only four goals in four games.
“Brandon is doing a tremendous job for us ... saving our bacon early on. We’re starting to find our form.
“We didn’t play great today, but we’re happy with the win. Now it’s time to elevate our game for conference play.”
Columbia Falls (1-3) starts Northern A play on Thursday hosting Libby.

BELGRADE — Chris Brayton scored the first two goals and Grant Jordan score the final goal and assisted on an earlier score to keep Belgrade unbeaten on the season.
Belgrade (6-0) kept Whitefish (3-2) off the board for 67 minutes. That’s Scott Marsh scored with the assist going to Shanoah Montano.
“We played our game in the first half,” Whitefish coach O’Brien Byrd said.
“Our game is a possession game. We kind of got away from that and Belgrade put us under pressure.”
Whitefish hosts Polson on Tuesday.

LIBBY — Josh Bundy tied the Class A nonconference match with a penalty kick in the 48th minute and followed with the game-winning goal at 53 minutes to edge Libby.
Libby (1-3) led 1-0 at the half on a score by Colin Maloney, assisted by Cody Wood. That goal was at 28 minutes.
“Billings Central had most of the possessions, but we had the better chances,” Libby coach Charlie Webster said.
“Cody Wood and Colin Maloney were involved in a lot of plays.”

HELENA — Kaleb Frame, a junior forward, tied it with his goal at 52 minutes and followed with the game-winner on a penalty kick at 56 minutes to lift Flathead over Capital in a Western AA matchup.
Capital took an early lead with Zach Brandt’s goal just four minutes into play.
Josh Osborne had six keeper saves for Flathead.
Flathead hosts Missoula Sentinel on Tuesday for a Western AA match.

HELENA — Kade Deleray, a senior midfielder, scored his first hat trick of the season and Colton Becker provided the other goal as Glacier rallied by Helena.
Helena led 2-0 at the 20-minute mark.
Glacier (5-0-1) did all of its scoring in the span of 12 minutes. It started with a Deleray penalty kick at 48 minutes.
He now has five goals on the season.
“They gave us a different look, were attacking wide,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said of Helena. “One dimensional play.”
Billiet said the adjustments made at halftime worked.
“That was good for us,” he said of trailing. “Facing adversity is what high school sports is all about. We took some positive steps forward today.”
And that happened despite playing without two starting defenders, who were sidelined by injuries.
Glacier is back in action Thursday at Missoula Hellgate.

Columbia Falls led twice, 1-0 on a goal by Ellie Johnson five minutes into play, and then 2-1 on another Johnson goal at 55 minutes.
Assisting on those scores were Natasha Martin and Tavia Bechtel.

HELENA — Ally Staats gave Glacier the early lead, scoring at 22 minutes, but Helena tied it up 12 minutes later on a goal by Aine Lawlor.
Helena outshot Glacier 18-9 on goal and led in corner kicks 4-0.
Amy Braig had 17 keeper saves.
“She did an outstanding job of controlling everything,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said.
“We came out really flat,” he continued.
“Helena was a dominant, physical force in the first half. We made some changes and got back into the game. It was back-and-forth (after that).”
Glacier (3-0-2) continues with Western AA action on Thursday at Missoula Hellgate.
