Sun Road open again
Hungry Horse News | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 10 years, 6 months AGO
Glacier National Park officials announced Saturday morning, Sept. 13, that the entire Going-to-the-Sun Road is open to motor vehicle travel, from the West Glacier Entrance all the way over Logan Pass to the St. Mary Visitor Center.
The Sun Road was closed from Big Bend to the Jackson Glacier Overlook on Tuesday, Sept. 9, because of snow. Two days later, on Thursday, Sept. 11, the road was gated at Avalanche Creek and Rising Sun due to hazardous winter road conditions.
The following warm weather has melted back the high elevation snow. But visitors are encouraged to drive with care as there may be a few icy patches on the roadway, and to watch for rock debris that may have fallen on the road.
