COEUR d'ALENE - A brand-new farmers market will be up and running today at the historic Meadow Brook Hall.

Karen Thurston, an organizer and one of the vendors, said approximately a dozen vendors are scheduled to be there, offering bread, vegetables, herbs, handmade home and garden items and knife sharpening.

"The atmosphere is really kind of farmy, kind of country," she said.

Vendors are all residents of the neighborhood.

Her family's Thurston Family Farm, which counts Pilgrim's Market in Coeur d'Alene as a customer, will be selling eggs at the farmers market.

It will be open from 8 a.m. to noon.

Meadow Brook Hall is located at 8088 W. Meadowbrook Loop.

The Meadow Brook Hall, originally a schoolhouse and then a farmers grange, is now a community hall for local residents of the Cougar Gulch area.

Thurston said outside farmers are invited to set up tables at the new market, for a fee of $25.
