COEUR d'ALENE - Triple Play Family Fun Park is scheduled to break ground Monday on an 8,750-square-foot expansion.

The plan is for the work to be completed in January 2015, with a price tag of more than $1 million.

The expansion will extend the west end of the facility toward U.S. 95 and will rise two to three stories high.

"We are so excited to have new attractions that will give more options during the winter months when our outside attractions are closed," said Jennifer Ross, marketing and sales director for Triple Play. "This also gives us room for future additions and a large area to host group events."

The expansion will include a new laser tag arena with 2,700 square feet of floor space, almost doubling the existing facility, which has 1,550 square feet of space.

The new facility will include an upper deck, which will increase the total square feet to 3,600 square feet, Ross said.

The LED-illuminated arena will have a total of 24 participant vests, initially, and a large staging area for people to don the suits.

There will be a new 32-foot-tall, three-floor ropes course. It will be for all ages with a "Tykes" area underneath for the kids who are not tall enough to climb the large course.

The idea of the ropes course, Ross said, is to allow Triple Play guests to try doing something just out of their comfort zone, and try it in a safe environment and at their own pace.

Ross said business has been good.

"We've had a very good year," Ross said. "This summer has been great."

The general contractor is Triple Play, with general manager Mike Murphy heading up the work. Richard Colburn, of H2A Architects in Coeur d'Alene, handled the design.

Triple Play is owned by John Geddes, Ross said.
