PUYALLUP - Moses Lake girls soccer (1-1) scored its first win of the season against Emerald Ridge, 2-1.

"They're a good team out of the SPSL so it was a good challenge for us," head coach Ric Char said.

Senior midfielder Lizzy McGraw assisted on both goals and freshman Jamie Loera scored the go-ahead goal for the Chiefs in the 71st minute.

"It was her first goal of her career so she was pretty pumped up," Char said.

Star forward Alysha Overland scored her first goal of the season to give Moses Lake its first lead of the match within the first few minutes.

The Chiefs now open Columbia Basin Big 9 play Tuesday at home against Eisenhower.

Tuesday kicks off a four-match week that sees Moses Lake play Eisenhower, Sunnyside, Ferris and Eastmont.

With the mounting injuries, Char says the goal this week is to make it through without sustaining any major injuries.

With some key players out, McGraw has stepped up early in the year and Char has been impressed.

"She's playing great soccer and having a huge impact."
