Mitchell smart to avoid debate

— Editor’s note: Republican Flathead County commissioner candidate Phil Mitchell has declined an invitation from the Daily Inter Lake to participate in a public debate with his opponent, Democrat Stacey Schnebel.

If I was Phil Mitchell (Republican) I would also avoid debating Stacey Schnebel (an independent running as a Democrat) for Flathead County Commissioner.

Why take a chance on debating someone much smarter than you…who has intensively studied Flathead County government for several months…and who has interviewed every county government office holder in her attempt to learn how they govern…and who has learned what the important issues are that matter to the citizenry by speaking directly to them?

Why not just sit back and let the 70-30 Republican party advantage in Flathead County play itself out without doing any work to earn the election win?

After all Frank Miele, the Daily Inter Lake editor, and debate sponsor and moderator, is known for his sense of fair play to all candidates when running debates, so Mitchell will get no help from easy questions there.

Phil’s supporters/handlers, who run his campaign and will guide him as merely their figurehead once he is in office, are not allowed to answer questions for him during a live debate.

So what is the poor guy to do? Why not just duck the debate and let partisan ideology run its course? Vote for the “R” and nevermind the issues at hand that need intelligent attention by those who would govern us.

Let there be business as usual in Flathead County.

Raising the red pollution flag

Not feeling any urgency to save lives from the pollution from the Columbia Falls Aluminum Company, nothing is getting done with any haste to acquire Super Funds monies to clean up the mess.  The new owners of the CFAC, Glencore plc, could care less….as it is saving them money.  Their claim of contribution is to pass the obligation to the former owner Atlantic Richfield and BP plc.  And, of course, there are the ridiculous findings from well tests, reported to US Senator Jon Tester, that no significant pollution was found.  Not much social license here.

How to run against Sen. Tester

I know U.S. Sen. Jon Tester. I did my best to help elect him for both of his senatorial campaigns in the past. He is affable, poised, gregarious, articulate, a good public speaker, a good fund-raiser, and charismatic. It will be difficult for any new Democrat candidate to defeat him in the next Democratic primary campaign in 2018.

Wake up, you Trumpsters - you elected a madman

So what will it take for undereducated, uninformed Montanans to realize they voted in a madman as president of the United States? After all they don’t read, don’t watch real TV news, have no idea what Trump actually does as POTUS. They get all their false information from a phony TV news entertainment show called Fox News, and listen to the former drug addict Rush Limbaugh rant on the radio. They are incapable of discerning the truth from false news and lies.
