NOXON – The Lady Red Devils suffered a loss and later combated it with a win against county rivals as the ladies record went to 3-1 overall.

In a game on Thursday, Sept. 11, the girls lost to Charlo because of what Head Coach Teri Wilkinson attributed to their mindset.

“We seem to have this problem with our girls that they think they cannot get past Charlo, whether it be basketball or volleyball,” Coach Wilkinson said.

The ladies lost the game 0-3 (21-25, 21-25, 12-25). Wilkinson said the team did not put up a strong front and ended up giving too many points away on mistakes.

Even with the loss, a few players shined on the court.

“McKenna Krueger played a good game. She has been our most consistent player this season along with Asiah Jensen,” Coach Wilkinson said. “They have both been working hard and come to play every time they are on the court.”

The coach said the team needs to change their mindset to overtake Charlo in future games.

“When we play Charlo we just need to believe in ourselves and play with that in mind,” Coach Wilkinson said. “Hopefully next time around I can get the girls to believe that they are a good team and play as such.”

Their record shows that if the girls can get in the proper mindset, they are tough competition to stop as can be seen in their game against Hot Springs. The Lady Red Devils beat their opposition in three sets on Saturday, Sept. 13 with finals scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-23.

In all the team had 27 kills with Krueger, and Nicky Zavoianu bringing in ten a piece. Krueger added the team’s only three blocks. With 37 digs total, Natalia Beardsley was able to get low for 14 and Bethanie Ulrich had ten of the 24 assists. Zavoianu had the team’s only ace.

The girls will face Superior next for their homecoming week, but will be missing two of their strong players.

“Unfortunately when we play Superior on Saturday night we will be missing two of our starters, the Zavoianu sisters,” Coach Wilkinson said.

Nicky is the team’s middle hitter, while Michelle is the team’s libero.

The focus for the team before the game was to find a way to bring a strong front with the absence of the sisters.

“We will spend the week trying to come up with a rotation that will allow us to be as competitive as we should be with the sisters there,” Coach Wilkinson said.
