MATTAWA - "To be honest, this loss is on me," coach Mike Forestiere said after Wahluke fell, 34-12, to the Cle Elum Warriors Last Friday in non-league high school football.

Forestiere was referring to turn overs. He had not given enough attention to that facet of the game before Friday.

"We had five fumbles and one interception," he said. "You can't win that way. We have to get back to basics, clean it up and get ready for Warden, which lost a tough game to Jenkins.

Despite the lopsided score, the Warriors did play. They rushed the ball for 243 yards and passed for 65. And the passing efficiency was good.

Once again, senior running back Randy Forestiere led the ground attack. He had 15 carries for 106 yards and scored one touchdown.

Carlos Theide carried the ball three times for 20 yards, Jason Cruz carried nine times for 59 yards, and Daniel Corrales had five totes for 58 yards.

Quarterback Collin Ahmann completed three of five passes for 65 yards and one touchdown. Nate Buck had two catches for 30 yards one touchdown.

"The kids played hard. We turned the ball over and still had our chances," Forestiere said. "It was one of those games you wish you could have back, but you get only one chance."

This Friday's game at Warden will be the Warriors' first road game. It will start at 7 p.m.

It promises to be a rough and tumble contest. Warden won its opener, 39-35, over Tonasket. It barely lost, 24-21, last Friday to Jenkins.
