Man cries wolf over 'stolen' cell phone

A man on Wednesday evening called Whitefish Police to report his cell phone had been stolen from a Central Avenue restaurant the night before. The man called back later, saying that he had found his phone. It was in the restaurant’s lost and found the whole time. 

A road rage incident was witnessed Wednesday in Whitefish. The caller reported hearing one driver yell at another, “I’m going to kill you.” 

A construction worker hit a gas line on East Second Street on Wednesday afternoon. Nearby buildings were evacuated due to the gas leak. 

A woman on Baker Avenue reported that there was a man talking to her and he was standing in back of her house “blowing smoke through the hedges.” The woman said that the man had moved and was setting off “cherry bombs or something.” 


A woman called Kalispell Police from a Two Mile Drive residence because she thinks she’s being discriminated against because some of the residents smoke outside of her windows and she isn’t able to get fresh air. The woman said she spoke to a legislator who told her to call the police department. The woman was also told to contact her apartment manager, but she said the manager smokes right along with them. 

A woman spotted a toddler teetering near the roadway outside of a day-care facility on North Meridian Road on Thursday around noon. The woman stopped, picked up the child and brought him or her back to the day-care center, where the door was wide open and no one was around. Police spoke to the manager of the day care, who said she’ll be getting a more secure door. 

A GPS system was stolen from a vehicle on Sixth Avenue West North sometime Tuesday night. 

A man was kicked out of a West Idaho Street business Wednesday after spitting on the doors of an employee’s vehicle. 

A garage was broken into on Kirsten Drive on Tuesday night and stereo equipment, along with other miscellaneous items, was stolen from the vehicles parked inside. 

A brother and sister were involved in a physical fight at an Airport Road location on Wednesday night. The brother was arrested. 


The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office received a call after a business sign was vandalized on Fairmont Road in Kalispell. 

Criminal mischief was reported at a Three Mile Drive construction site, where a worker reported that someone had used a rock to smash in the windows of a loader. 

A woman was caught shoplifting Wednesday morning on U.S. 2 East in Kalispell. 

An elderly man was spotted on Kelley Road in Columbia Falls, stopping passing cars and asking drivers for cigarettes. 

A pair of license plates were stolen off of a vehicle on Mountain View Drive sometime Tuesday night. 

A hiker reported finding a broken high heel about five miles west of Airport Road. 

Police were called after a Columbia Falls man smashed a woman’s car windows with his fists Wednesday afternoon. 

A man turned in a commemorative coin he found that was apparently from the 1936 Olympics. He believed it was stolen, so he took it to the police. 

A man driving on Farm to Market Road on Wednesday evening reported that a vehicle had been tailgating him so he had slowed down. The tailgating vehicle then passed the caller, slammed on the brakes, and got out of his vehicle with a gun in his hand. Police spoke to both men about their driving behavior, and more importantly, scolded the man who brandished his weapon. 

A black bear was again spotted in Whitefish, this time on Duff Lane at about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. 

Someone called police from Columbia Falls because they were scared of a man who was “hooked up with the Mexican mafia.” 

A train coming in to Whitefish on Wednesday night was carrying a drunk and disorderly passenger, who fled as soon as the train arrived.
