ROYAL CITY - The Royal girls displayed fairly good defense, but they had no offense last week to start the high school soccer season.

The result was a 1-0 loss to Cle Elum and a 4-1 loss to Chelan in a pair of non-conference contests.

"The first full match of the season (vs. Cle Elum) was a bit frustrating for both teams as it is so early and the girls are far from the finished product," coach Jens Jensen said.

Jensen played all of the girls and looked at a number of different systems.

"We are happy that we were able to get out of the match without any injuries. So in that regard it was mission accomplished," Jensen said.

Despite the wider margin of defeat, Jensen thought his girls played better in the Chelan contest. Chelan's first two goals came on penalties, and Royal scored first on a goal by Flor Araujo.

"The starters were able to have a good portion of the possessions and dictated the play for long stretches of the match," Jensen said.

Jensen gave the last 20 minutes to the girls who had been waiting to play. They fought well but gave up 2 goals.
