Kalispell boasts high number of Obamacare enrollees

A new detailed report from the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services allows the public to see how many people in each zip code signed up for the Affordable Care Act during the initial enrollment period in late 2013 and early 2014.
Kalispell’s zip code, 59901, posted the second-highest enrollment figure in Montana, 1766, after central Bozeman’s 1,890. A Missoula zip code posted the third-highest, with 1,707, followed by two Billings zip codes and another one from Bozeman.
The survey is incomplete, mainly because zip codes that had fewer than 50 people enrolling in the online marketplace were denoted with an asterisk rather than a number to preserve privacy.
Every major community in Flathead and Lincoln counties was recorded on the list.
After Kalispell’s number, the 59937 zip code used in Whitefish yielded the next highest number of enrollees in Flathead County, with 862 people signing up for health-care coverage.
Bigfork had 479, Columbia Falls 476, Lakeside 162, Somers 83 and Kila 62, for a grand total of 3,890 recorded Flathead County enrollees in the Affordable Care Act.
The number is likely close to the actual number, but is off due to low population in various zip codes.
Lincoln County also had posted enrollment numbers, with county seat Libby seeing 360 enrollees. Eureka had 201 and Troy had 132 sign up on the exchange.
The list details not only every zip code in Montana, but also the 35 other states that chose to use healthcare.gov rather than their own marketplaces.
The data was drawn from the initial enrollment period under the Affordable Care Act, Oct. 1, 2013 through March 31, 2014, but also including special circumstance enrollments all the way through April 19.
Another enrollment period for the marketplace will open Nov. 15 and run to Feb. 15, 2015.
