OTHELLO - If you are a singer who needs a venue for displaying your skills, the Othello Choral Society has one where voices are raised to Jesus Christ.

"It is time to think about getting ready for Christmas, says bassist William Hansen. "We cannot think Christmas without thinking Christmas Cantata."

The title for this year is "What a Glorious Night", created by Bradley Knight and Dale Mathews. It will be directed by Bob Reichert.

"It promises to be a stirring presentation," Hansen said. "A comment from last year was that it was like being in a worship service."

A cantata celebrates a holiday, Christmas or Easter, with appropriate music and dialog. This will be the OCS's 36th year of cantatas with no repeats.

The first rehearsal will be this Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7:30 pm in the Pilgrim Lutheran Church on 7th and Elm in Othello. There will be 13 regular rehearsals with two extra for make-up practices.

The OCS requires neither auditions nor membership dues. Anyone from high school age and up is welcome. There will be a children's choir.

The cantata is planned for presentation at the Church of The Nazarene on Dec. 6-7 in Othello and Dec. 14 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Moses Lake. One of the performances will be recorded.
