Erin VanDerMolen of Whitefish works on an oil painting in Woodland Park on Wednesday morning, September 24 as part of the Hockaday Museum of Art's From Field Study to Studio Painting, an oil painting workshop with artist Rob Akey of Whitefish. In the background is Marti Okerberg, also of Whitefish. "There is a reason a paint brush is as long as it is," said Akey. "You give up some control when you hold the brush at the end, and that is a good thing. It forces you be more creative, to give up the precise details we have been trained to focus on since we were in kindergarten and paint instead in large color notes." Wednesday was day one of a three day workshop. (Brenda Ahearn/Daily Inter Lake)
