NOXON – As the sun slipped behind the mountains behind Noxon Reservoir the lights lit up the football field for homecoming and the Noxon Red Devils battled Arlee on last Friday.

The game and the school’s homecoming festivities took place during Friday evening, starting at 6 p.m., on Sept. 19.

After putting together a couple of big running plays on their opening drive Noxon was unable to get points on the board.

The Red Devils defense did their best to stop the high-powered offensive attack of Arlee, but it proved to be a difficult task and the visitors were able to find the end zone several times in the first half.

“The boys played their best game to this point, however, Arlee was too much to stop,” Noxon Head Coach Josh Patterson.

Noxon gave up two scores in the opening quarter of the game, but the contest was still a two possession game and very much up for grabs after the opening frame, with Arlee ahead by 16 points.

Following the start of the second quarter Noxon was unable to further stymie the opposing offense and the Arlee team exploded for an outburst of 40 points.

“We played our best pass defense so far. Arlee's athlete's made big plays despite our players being in good position. We still have much room for improvement in our overall tacking and blocking fundamentals,” Patterson said.

At half time the score was Arlee 56 and Noxon 0.

The Red Devils would shore up their defense in the second half and prevented Arlee from putting up more points ending the evening contest at the same score.

“We are getting better every game and I think we have the three toughest games behind us. The rest of the field appears to be fairly even. Games from this point may come down to who can execute their game plan better and which team wants to win the most,” Patterson said.

Next up for Red Devils football will be an out of state contest against Wallace in Idaho.

The game will be played at 6:30 p.m. local time and is the start of a three-week long road trip for Noxon.
