Volleyball roundup: C-Falls spikers sweep Whitefish

WHITEFISH — Ciera Finberg and Carla Nicosia had 12 kills each as Columbia Falls swept the Whitefish Lady Bulldogs in a Northwestern A volleyball action on Saturday.
After trouncing Whitefish in the first set, 25-9, the Wildkats were tested the rest of the way, winning 25-23, 25-21.
“After we got the first game out of our system we were able to compete against Columbia Falls,” Whitefish coach Sarah Scott said. “They’re a strong team to play against. We fought back after a tough first- set loss, I was proud of the way the girls fought back.”
Columbia Falls’ Cydney Finberg tallied 28 of the Wildkats’ 30 assist and teammate Winter Kemppainen finished with a match-high five blocks.
Allie Schulz had a big day for Whitefish. The junior setter had 27 assists, 17 digs and four aces.

Bigfork 3, Troy 0
BIGFORK — The Bigfork Valkyries, tested in their first set against Troy, crushed the Trojans in their final two for the District 7B sweep.
Bigfork won the first set, 25-23, before holding Troy under 15 points in each of the final sets, winning 25-9, 25-12.
“The girls came out a little bit sluggish, struggling with their communication a bit, but they worked through that very well,” Bigfork coach Melody Strauss said
“In the second match, they came out strong and energetic.”
Marissa Hiza and Miranda Campbell had five kills each to lead the Valkyries. Kalia Wicklund had all 16 assists for Bigfork.
Abbie Fraley’s nine aces set the tone for Bigfork at the serving line while her seven digs led all players, keeping the Troy attack at bay.

PLAINS — Eureka held a big edge in kills, 37-12, digs, 57-15, and aces 14-7, en route to a District 7B victory over Plains.
The scores: 25-17, 24-26, 25-22, 25-15.
Eureka (5-4 overall, 2-1 league) was led by Elliott Peterson’s 14 kills.
Amanda Peterson had six aces for the victors and Evynn Anderson 16 digs.
