LHS celebrates homecoming week

<p>Senior Hailey Craig reading "Too Many Toys" Monday to Mrs. Foss's first-grade class with sophomore Brandon Sadewasser. Afterward there was a question and answer period where first-graders were able to ask what it was like to be in high school.</p>
It is homecoming week at Libby High School. Festivities began with Mustache Monday. Students were prompted with the homonymic instruction: “We mustache you to wear a mustache.”
A stroll through the school’s halls Monday revealed several revelers taping on what they could not muster. The silliness of Monday’s theme was balanced by the participation in Read with a Logger. High school students drove to Libby Elementary every hour during the school day to read for young students. Some classes engaged in question and answer sessions about the finer points of navigating high school life. Monday also marked the last day classes were allowed to prepare their diorama. The projects will be on display all week in the high school front lobby before they are voted on.
Tuesday, or Duct Tape Day, will give students the opportunity to show off their best duct tape wallets, ties and outfits. Students are encouraged to help the volleyball team keep it together when they host Eureka at 4 p.m.
Woodstock Wednesday will celebrate all things groovy and peaceful. Tie-dye shirts and rainbow-tinted sunglasses get their one day of the year out from underneath the clothes pile. Students are reminded to follow the dress code and not get too far out.
Students are encouraged to dress their best Thursday. Homecoming court members particularly will want to wear their finest garb when homecoming royalty is crowned at 11:45 a.m. during the coronation ceremony in the gym. The king and queen will make their first public appearance when observing a 5 p.m. spaghetti feed at Christ Lutheran Church. The Logger Booster Club will sponsor the event.
Thursday night will also feature the parade, bonfire and pep rally. Students are asked to line up at 6 p.m. at the end of Mineral Avenue. A line will then walk to the high school for the bonfire and pep rally. The entire community is invited to attend.
Class competitions will commence at 10 a.m. Friday. The entire community is encouraged to show their Logger pride by wearing blue and gold. A 5:30 p.m. tailgate party will precede the 7 p.m. football kickoff. The Loggers will take on conference foe Frenchtown.
Fans are invited to continue their homecoming support by attending Saturday’s noon boys soccer game against Columbia Falls. The girls will follow at 2 p.m. The weeklong event culminates with the homecoming dance. The Elementary School will host the event from 8 p.m. - midnight.

Mountain pleads not guilty to seven Yaak burglary charges
Not guilty, seven times over. That was the plea Monday when Zachary Michael Mountain, 19, was arraigned before District Judge James Wheelis. Mountain faces as many as 140 years in prison for his alleged involvement last year in a string of felony burglaries in the Yaak.

Announcing Libby Loggers football games this year is a predictable endeavor. With the passing game aching from the absence of graduated All-State quarterback Jared Winslow, the Loggers are a committed ground team. Reminiscent of the era when offenses were pleased with three yards and a cloud of dust, the Loggers run game repeatedly rams the ball right into the teeth of the opposing defense.
