The Libby Loggers (2-2, 3-5) beat the winless Polson soccer team Saturday. An own goal by the Pirates gifted the visiting Loggers a lead in the seventh minute. The Loggers earned a goal seven minutes later when Walter Briones slotted home an opportunity presented by teammate Colin Maloney.

The Loggers defended the lead with strong possession, allowing only three shots in the game.

Libby’s aggression — they were called for 15 fouls to Polson’s three — earned them the advantage in corner kicks and led to seven shots on target.

The Loggers travel Tuesday to Bigfork for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.

Announcing Libby Loggers football games this year is a predictable endeavor. Reminiscent of the era when offenses were pleased with three yards and a cloud of dust, the Loggers run game repeatedly rams the ball right into the teeth of the opposing defense.
