NIC to celebrate American Indian Heritage

North Idaho College is hosting a variety of events in honor of American Indian Heritage Week Monday through April 11. All events are being held in the NIC Edminster Student Union unless otherwise stated. For a complete schedule of the week's activities, visit http://bit.ly/1G7OEkz

Monday

The weeklong series of events starts with an Inter-Tribal Food Feast from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a drumming/dancing exhibition from noon to 1 p.m.

Tuesday

A silent auction and vendor displays will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to benefit the Che'nshish Scholarship, a scholarship fund established by the American Indian Student Alliance Club through the NIC Foundation.

There will be hand-drumming by Johnathan Nomee from noon to 12:30 p.m.

Wednesday

The Sqwi'm Reading Room Dedication will be held in Molstead Library from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. there will be a stick game demonstration.

Friday, April 10

From 6:30 to 9 p.m. there will be a free craft workshop for families. The hands-on workshop is free for all ages. Families can learn how to make a dreamcatcher, choker necklace, pony bead necklace and more. There will be free pizza and refreshments.

From 7 to 7:30 p.m. and 8 to 8:30 p.m., there will be a live performance of "Coyote and the Birds."

Saturday, April 11

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be a Gourd Art class offered.

The week of events is sponsored by NIC, American Indian Studies, American Indian Student Alliance Club, NIC Student Activities Club and the NIC Diversity Steering Committee.
