Nils' Business Bits: New cafe on Prairie Ave., a new beer filling station and more
Nils Rosdahl | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 9 years, 9 months AGO
A large variety of breakfasts, lunches and treats are offered at Chomper Cafe, which opened this weekend in Stoddard Park at 2345 W. Prairie Ave. (between Ramsey Road and Atlas in Hayden).
With seating at an L-shaped counter and a lower dining room and special artwork, the farmhouse theme matches the tone of Hayden's Stoddard Park, previously a country farm. Outdoor seating will be added, and the business also offers catering, hosting special events and a kids play area.
The place offered a preview to its friends and suppliers this week with a special touch of the would-be customers offering their comments and suggestions on notecards. Hours at Chomper Cafe are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Phone 719-0441. Check www.chompercafe.com.
The Filling Station opens on Fifth
The Filling Station on 5th is a 20-tap craft beer growler fill station and taphouse on Fifth Street behind Scratch Bistro restaurant at 501 E. Sherman Ave. in downtown Coeur d'Alene.
Opening last week, the place offers 20 beers on tap, and many are locally produced. They also offer five 4-ounce tasters in a flight and pints and to-go options of 16-ounce pints, 22-ounce bombers and 64-ounce growlers. Their cider is Lake City Hopped from North Idaho Cider. They plan to have 12 rotating taps, limited release barrels and session IPAs and tasty porters. They also serve their beer and cider through Scratch Bistro.
Owners are Keith Carpenter and Jason Rex. Hours are 2-8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Phone 660-2371. Check www.thefillingstationon5th.com.
River City Dentistry moves
With its previous building on Schneidmiller eliminated to make way for the new Greensferry overpass, River City Dentistry has moved to Suite A of 737 N. Thornton St. in Post Falls.
Dr. Donna Schau had been in the previous building for 13 years. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Phone 777-8668. Check www.rivercitydentistry.com.
Tractor Supply here or not?
A sign along Neider Avenue between Safeway and K-Mart says "Tractor Supply coming soon." The location evidently would be the now-vacant Office Depot space - or maybe a new building closer to the road.
The head-scratching part is that a spokeswoman at the company headquarters in Brentwood, Tenn., said the office doesn't know about it. The nearest of the company's 1,400 stores in 49 states is in Puyallup, Wash. Maybe we could be its 50th state. It started in 1938.
The website bills the company as "For Life Out Here" and claims it's the "largest U.S. rural lifestyle retail store."
Now for the Tidbits
- Watch for May openings and details here soon for Timber Gastro Pub in Post Falls and The Coeur d'Alene Tap House Unchained in downtown's Plaza Shoppes. Other moves involve Heritage Health in Post Falls and Marmalade downtown.
- Plenty of litter still needs to be cleaned along the freeway through town. It's too bad that trough can't be nicer through the middle of town. Yeah, it wasn't the middle when it was built, but it sure is now.
- So, is Kentucky going to win the NCAA men's title? (This was written before Saturday's semifinals). "Field goal" and "free throw" are two words and "3-pointer" is numerical and hyphenated.
- A boiled egg is hard to beat.
- A real headline: "Organ festival ends in smashing climax."
