COEUR d'ALENE - The Coeur d'Alene Rotary Club's Outdoor Idaho auction is scheduled for 6 p.m. April 24 at The Coeur d'Alene Resort.

Tickets to the fundraiser are on sale for $60. Sponsorships are $1,000, which includes a table for eight, bottle of wine and advertising in the program and at the event.

Contact Laurie Thomas at (208) 659-4629 for tickets or to reserve a table.

"For us it's a key fundraiser," Rotary president-elect Ron Ouren said. "The main purpose of this is to raise $50,000 to $60,000 to support our community in a variety of ways, along with some international projects."

It's also a fun evening with lots of trips and gifts to be auctioned.

"This isn't just a Rotary event," as tickets and tables are available to anyone, Ouren said.

More than 200 people are likely to attend, he said.

Coeur d'Alene Rotary has two major fundraisers each year, including this auction and a rose sale in the fall. The club, chartered in 1921, currently has 174 members and meets every Friday at noon at The Coeur d'Alene Resort.

The club donates an average of $75,000 each year.

It has given out college scholarships, provided funding for food-filled backpacks for children, and given to needy organizations such as food banks. It also has donated to health organizations and arts programs.

Rotary contributed funding to construction projects like the Kroc Center, McEuen Park, Coeur d'Alene Library, the North Idaho College Health and Science Building and others.

Additionally, the club has been a supporter of international projects, with between $10,000 to $13,000 given annually.

The money has gone to clean water and sanitation projects in poor countries, paid for surgical equipment in the Philippines, provided financial support to build a school in Honduras, and helped support a student nursing mission in Nicaragua.

The club has partnered with others to support the Guatemala Literacy Project, which brings textbooks and provides introductory computer skills to children living in the country's highlands. The Coeur d'Alene Rotary has contributed approximately $140,000 to that project in the past 15 years.

The club has made a commitment for its 100th birthday in 2021 to donate $250,000 to the city of Coeur d'Alene's Four Corners project.

The Coeur d'Alene Rotary Endowment Foundation was founded in 2008 as a 501(c)3 charitable organization.
