SANDPOINT - Brent Mark Stevens discovered an unfortunate coincidence Wednesday - he shares his first and last name with a Sandpoint man who pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.

Brent Anthony Stevens entered the guilty plea in U.S. District Court in Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday, which resulted in a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office and a news story that published on Wednesday.

Brent Mark Stevens was unaware he had something of a doppelgnger until news of Brent Anthony Stevens' guilty plea broke.

"I've never come across another Brent Stevens," said Brent Mark Stevens.

Although their ages are comparable and they have the same first name and surname, the similarities between the two Stevenses end there.

Brent Mark Stevens, 35, is a married father of three who lives near Clark Fork. He's been a co-owner of sandpoint.com and Century21 Riverstone since 2004.

Brent Anthony Stevens, 31, appears to be a single Sandpoint resident who listed his occupation as a bulk foods department manager at Winter Ridge Natural Foods Market, according to Facebook.

But perhaps most notably, Brent Mark Stevens has no criminal record and is enjoying his liberty. Brent Anthony Stevens, meanwhile, has a federal felony conviction and is looking at a prison term as long as 10 years once he's sentenced on July 21.

Brent Mark Stevens said his close friends and associates know he's not the Brent Stevens who just pleaded guilty. However, he's concerned that more casual acquaintances may confuse him with the newly-minted convict.

"That's what I'm worried about," Brent Mark Stevens said.
