Softball: Columbia Falls smokes Whitefish

WHITEFISH — Ashley Trueblood and KJ Schweikert combined on a 1-hitter as Columbia Falls improved to 5-0 on the Class A softball season with a 21-0 Northwestern A victory over rival Whitefish on Thursday at Smith Fields.

Trueblood fanned seven batters in four innings in the circle. Schweikert struck out two.

Trueblood gave up a double to left field by Whitefish’s Michaela McDowell, the second hitter, in the first inning.

Columbia Falls banged out 16 hits. Leadoff hitter Carlee Brown, 3 for 4, and Breanna Friar, 3 for 5, led the Wildkat hit parade.

Brown doubled twice while Friar had a triple.

Also doubling for Columbia Falls were Katie Price and Kaitlyn Hovde.

Brown, Price, Trueblood and Kerry Lanners had two RBIs each.

Columbia Falls plays Frenchtown on Saturday in Libby at noon.

Whitefish hosts Eureka on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
