PLAINS - At one in the afternoon on Sunday, Plains’ youngsters flocked to the Fred Young Park to partake in this year’s Easter Egg Hunt held by the Plains Lions Club.

Just the day before it was raining and snowing throughout Sanders County, but the sun shone down on the hunters.

The park was split into three sections for different age groups, one and two year olds were together, three and four year olds were together, and five and six year olds were together. Parents even helped their children hunt for the eggs and went out to help grab eggs from tree branches.

Eggs were placed in plain sight in the grass, while others were hidden in bushes and trees in the sections were the older hunters had to look high and low.

In each section a special egg was hidden and the hunter who found it could turn it in to win a special prize, which was an Easter basket. Mayor Greg Eitelberg, who is also a member of the Plains Lions Club, explained a new twist to the long standing tradition of having a special egg and prize. “We kind of mixed it up this year because we have been using black eggs for the last 20 to 30 years. This year we actually changed the prize eggs to ones with a face on it, so it would make it more fair so the kids that knew wouldn’t be able to just grab them,” said Mayor Eitelberg.

Along with the special prize eggs, all the hunters could turn in their eggs for a bag of candy. Mayor Eitelberg remarked that it was a great turnout and that he hoped the 100 bags of candy was enough. Thankfully it turned out that it was just enough. By 1:30 the park was empty of eggs and the families carried on their way.
