MISSOULA — The Flathead boys won the team title and the Glacier girls finished second at the Missoula Invitational on Saturday, battling high winds at one of the largest track and field meets in western Montana.

Flathead’s Sylas Schutt was named the track athlete of the meet, winning both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, one of just four athletes to win multiple events at the invitational. Schutt won the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 37.08 seconds and the 3,200 in 9:37.37.

Braves teammate Jess Beaman also won twice, sweeping the jumps with a leap of 22 feet in the long and 44-9 in the triple.

Whitefish’s Jed Nagler was also impressive, winning the 100 in 11.55 seconds and high jump by clearing 6 feet, 6 inches, the best mark in the state this season.

Polson’s Jacob Clairmont won the 110 hurdles in 15.67.

The Glacier girls finished well behind Missoula Big Sky for second place but had a number of standout performances.

Wolfpack freshman Annie Hill won the 1,600 in 5:05.36 and was on the winning 1,600 relay that crossed the finish line in 4:09.02, winning by more than six seconds.

Keyawna Larson won the javelin with a throw of 127-9, fighting the wind but still winning by more than two feet to help the Wolfpack team score.

Bailey Smith finished second in the 800 in a neck-and-neck finish, falling to Missoula Sentinel’s Ellen Brooks by one-hundredth of a second. Her time of 2:21.97 was good enough to qualify for state.

Columbia Falls’ Samantha Mundel finished second in the 1,600 in 5:27.92 and third in the 3,200 in 11:50.15. Carla Nicosia finished second in the triple jump for the Wildkats with a span of 36-2.

Flathead’s Kaitlin Wride was second in the 3,200 in 11:32.76. Whitefish’s Grace Kurtz was third in the 400 in 1:02.29.
