Riverstone continues to evolve

More major changes are happening in Riverstone. One is for certain because it's under construction - a new building for Aspen Homes at 1831 Lakewood Drive (the end of the main street into the development from Northwest Boulevard).

The second change would be a new major restaurant. Hang on for that one.

Designed with urban rustic architecture, the new Aspen Homes building will be 8,821 square feet in two stories. A co-tenant will be the international corporate offices of Labor Consultants. Both would be moving from 1038 Northwest Boulevard this fall.

A custom home builder here for 20 years, Aspen Homes has 14 employees and is open 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Phone 664-9171.

Check www.aspenhomes.com.

Anthony's Restaurant here too?

Several sources indicate an Anthony's Restaurant will be located in Riverstone. However, none of the prime businesses involved - Anthony's offices, Riverstone people and the probable Realtor - will confirm the news as the deal isn't finalized.

Primarily a seafood restaurant with both fancy dinner houses and casual cafes, Anthony's has 18 locations in Washington and Oregon, with the nearest in Spokane. The 36-year-old company's offices are in Bellevue, Wash. Check www.anthonys.com.

Verdis expands in move

Civil engineering and construction management have been added to the original land-use planning and landscape architecture services of Verdis. The expansion is easier with the company's move to 311 E. Coeur d'Alene Ave. (the former Modern Glass building). Moving from the former Central School building at Sixth Street and Garden Avenue, Verdis' new location was renovated with an eclectic mix of old barn wood, repurposed brick and a floor-to-ceiling glass garage door.

Sandy and Gary Young started the company as e2 Planning and Design in 2007 and expanded and changed the name to Verdis (Latin for "green") in 2011. Since Gary's death, Sandy is principal planner and president and is assisted by Stephanie Koch, Stephanie Blalack, Molly Mazzuca, Merle Van Houten and Chris Varela. Verdis is gaining access into the SBA program to assist small economically and socially disadvantaged businesses in securing federal contracting projects.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and weekends by appointment. Phone 667-1214. The www.verdisnw.com website is being updated this weekend.

Tractor Supply here in June

Offering farm, ranch and pet supplies and western wear, Tractor Supply Co. will open in early June in the former Office Depot location (between Safeway and K-Mart) at 131 W. Neider Ave. The 25,513-square-foot space is being remodeled.

Also opening new stores in Spokane and Cheney, Tractor Supply has about 1,400 stores in 49 states with its headquarters in Tennessee. Check www.tractorsupply.com.

Hang on for these Tidbits

- Watch for news on Coeur d'Alene Tap House Unchained in the Plaza Shoppes downtown, Timber Gastro Pub in Post Falls, a new apartment building at 728 Sherman Ave., a mini-storage building at 3113 Government Way, a parking lot north of Hayden City Hall, a new soccer field at West Lacey and Government Way in Hayden, a new location for Interstate Office Supply and a combination of Pet Clinic of Coeur d'Alene and Animal Allies of Idaho at 1902 Sherman Ave.

- The super playground area at McEuen Park needs a surrounding fence. Keeping track of kids in that big, busy place is difficult.

- Dalton Avenue headed west really needs right-turn lanes onto Government Way and Highway 95.

- The guy who fell into an upholstery machine is fully recovered.

- A real headline: "Dr. Ruth to talk about sex with newspaper editors."

- "Farther" refers to distance, and "further" refers to intensity. Makes you wonder about the advertisement of "Go further with Ford."
