COEUR d'ALENE - Former Kootenai County Clerk Dan English has been chosen to lead Habitat for Humanity of North Idaho.

English starts June 1 as executive director of the nonprofit housing organization.

"I get kind of revitalized by doing community involvement in something I feel is meaningful," English said Monday. "I'm a good salesman for a cause that I believe in."

Michaelle Sande, the chair of Habitat of North Idaho's board of directors, said the organization did a nationwide search for a new executive director.

She is pleased the search led to a local person.

"This gives him insight into how the needs in our community have changed and what Habitat can do to help with meeting the needs of our residents," Sande said. "Having served as an executive director for CASA, his background with governmental bodies and regulatory agencies at all levels, his experience in grant writing, fundraising and budgets made him the perfect candidate."

For two and a half years, English has been the executive director of North Idaho CASA, the Court Appointed Special Advocate program providing court representation for children. His last day is May 8.

"I feel very good about what I've done at CASA," English said. "Things are at a very good level right now."

In addition to being the county clerk for 15 years, English also served on the Coeur d'Alene City Council and Coeur d'Alene School District's board of trustees.

Current Kootenai County Clerk Jim Brannon was previously the executive director of Habitat of North Idaho.
