Chemical peels are a treatment in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin, forcing the skin to exfoliate and peel. The new skin is typically smoother and less wrinkled. Various peels are available including glycolic acid which targets fines lines and uneven skin tone, salicylic acid which targets oil and acne prone skin, and pigment peels which target hyperpigmented areas, freckles and age spots. For a less intense experience, sensitive skin peels are also available.

A chemical peel starts with the thorough cleansing of the skin. Once that is complete, the skin is dermaplaned to remove the top layers of dead skin cells and to rid the face of vellus hair (peach fuzz). This also allows the peel product to more deeply penetrate the skin. After being dermaplaned, the chemical solution is applied. During this part of the process a mild burning or stinging sensation can be felt. The solution is left on for three to five minutes and is then neutralized to stop the reaction. Once the chemical has been neutralized, a CO2 "snowball" is used to help cool the treated area, promote the shedding of any remaining dead cells, develop even skin tone, and shrink pores. Four to six chemical peels spaced every few weeks is recommended as an initial treatment with periodic maintenance peels every few months after that. A difference in luminosity and texture can be seen in a matter of days after having a chemical peel.
