Emily Getts started off the season on a good note last week, dropping Lady Bulldog Keara Delaney 6-1, 6-1 in girls tennis on the road April 7.

Getts was one of two Wildkats to get in the win column against Whitefish. Harley Molchan edged Makenna Benbrook 7-6 (9-7), 6-0 for the Kats’ other victory. Whitefish won the meet 5-2. Getts was the lone girl to make it to the state tournament for the Kats last season.

“Getts is having a strong start to the season. Her hard work during the off-season is paying off.,” coach Gene Marcille said. “Molly Schmit and Harley Molchan are showing a lot of promise as singles players, as are Sammi Mueller and Samantha Gilk in doubles.”

The teams were scheduled to play before spring break but were rained out.

The Kats beat the Missoula Sentinel JV team 5-2 on April 9. Getts, Molly Schmit, Hailey Sapa and Molchan all had singles wins, and Meghan McCallum and Mariah Lingel had a win in doubles to lead the Kats.

The boys team played Polson at home April 9 and were blanked, 0-6, but Trevor Wick and Gabby DeLorme both picked up wins against Sentinel. On Monday, the doubles team of Brock Denney and Cooper Wendt got a win against Ronan.

The teams will travel to Dillon for a tournament Friday.
