Lake City High baseball fundraiser set for Friday
COEUR d'ALENE - "Hot Stove Banquet," a fundraiser for the Lake City High baseball program, is scheduled for Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Coeur d'Alene Eagles Lodge.
The event includes a silent auction and a car raffle. Food will be provided by Texas Roadhouse.
Guest speakers include Rob Spear, University of Idaho athletic director; and Ryan Phillips, former Idaho and NFL football player.
Tickets are $20 per person, and are available from any Lake City baseball player, coach or parent, or by calling 640-0269.
CC Spokane-NIC softball twinbill postponed to Thursday
COEUR d'ALENE - Tuesday's Northwest Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Memorial Field between Community Colleges of Spokane and North Idaho College was rained out.
It was rescheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m.
NIC is 24-1, 18-0 vs. NWAC foes. As NIC is making the transition from a roster on NJCAA-scholarship players to one with NWAC-scholarship players, the Cardinals are not eligible for postseason play this season.
CC Spokane leads the East Region of the NWAC at 24-2, 16-1 in league.
Rathdrum Parks and Rec offering adult softball
The Rathdrum Parks and Recreation Department is offering adult softball this summer, and is accepting team registrations.
Games will be played at Majestic Park and scheduled to begin on June 7. Organizers are planning a Sunday coed league with games starting after 1 p.m., as well as a men's league during the week.
Teams will be ASA affiliated.
Cost is $500 and registration will be taken until May 11 at 5 p.m.

Ex-Chiefs Stewart, Brooks make their next move
The Quad City Mallards announced they have signed former Spokane Chief forward Liam Stewart. The Mallards are the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild.
Stewart, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound center from Hermosa Beach, Calif., set career highs with 25 goals and 28 assists for 53 points for Spokane this season. He added two goals and an assist in six playoff games.
Over four seasons, Stewart scored 57 goals, included 10 shorthanded goals and 75 assists for 132 points and earned the team's Rookie of the Year award following the 2011-12 campaign.
In 32 career playoff games, Stewart scored nine goals and added an assist.
* Calder Brooks, a former Spokane Chiefs forward, has been signed to an amateur tryout contract by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.
Bridgeport is an affiliate of the New York Islanders.
Brooks, 20, recorded a career-high 58 points on 23 goals and 35 assists in 52 games (50 with Spokane) during his fourth full Western Hockey League season. He was acquired by the Chiefs in a trade with Prince Albert early in the 2014-15 season.
Brooks also played two and a half seasons with the Calgary Hitmen before being traded to Prince Albert midway through the 2013-1 seasons. Brooks had 124 points (48 goals, 76 assists) in 194 WHL games.
Zak!Charity Open sets dates for 2015 event
SPOKANE - In the last 15 years, the Zak!Charity Open has raised more than $4.7 million for local children's charities, and this year's event is poised to push that total over the $5 million mark.
The 16th Annual Zak!Charity Open will kick off on July 26 with the Summer Celebration at Northern Quest Resort & Casino where patrons will be treated to food, fun prizes, a festive live auction, and the highly anticipated football toss with Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien. The event will continue on July 27 with a golf tournament at Manito Golf and Country Club.
