POST FALLS - More traffic delays are ahead on Interstate 90 in Post Falls due to construction of the Greensferry Road overpass.

Overnight lane closures are planned for Tuesday and Wednesday next week as construction crews set bridge girders, the Idaho Transportation Department announced on Wednesday.

The eastbound right lane will close overnight on Tuesday and the westbound left lane on Wednesday night. Both closures will start at 9 p.m. and end by 6 the following morning.

"Flaggers will be on hand to guide traffic through the affected area and electronic signs will be used in advance of the work to alert motorists," an ITD press release states.

Construction on the overpass began in December and is expected to finish this fall.

The $15 million project, being funded by the Post Falls Urban Renewal Agency, is being built to improve connectivity, traffic mobility and emergency response between the business districts and residential areas north and south of the interstate.

The overpass will connect Greensferry Road between Seltice Way south of the freeway and Mullan Avenue on the north side.

When completed, the new structure will feature two lanes in each direction, a center-turn lane, bicycle lanes and sidewalks on both sides.

The former River City Dentistry building on Schneidmiller Avenue was recently demolished to create right of way for the project.

Post Falls URA Executive Director Tom Lien said on Wednesday that the Richards family home on Greensferry south of the freeway is expected to be purchased in the near future. The 1940s-era home, which was formerly located at the Farragut Naval Station near Athol, will be either moved or demolished.
