Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years, 9 months AGO
Rachel Geraldine Harris, 94, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, passed away April 8, 2015. She was born Dec. 30, 1920, in Atlanta, Ga.
Rachel's mom was a nurse at the St. Helena Sanitarium where Rachel began her early nursing career - which was cut short after Rachel met Daniel Harris. Together they rode his Harley to Reno, Nev., and were married Aug. 2, 1942.
Rachel was a mother first to her four sons while working at the Solano City Hospital and then the E. Ruth Sheldon School. After retirement, Rachel and Dan began a trek across the U.S.A. traveling the 48 states in their Airstream.
Rachel had many hobbies - water skiing, golf, walking each day with Dan, gardening, but especially sewing! She was an excellent seamstress! She was still sewing in her 80s.
Rachel will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her son, Walter Lynden, in 1974; and her husband, Daniel Warren Harris, in 2007 after 64 years of marriage.
She is survived by three sons: Daniel Warren Harris, Jr. of Deer Park, Wash., Ronal Lee Harris and his wife Cyrie of Deer Park, Wash., and Fred Alvin Harris and his wife Meralyn of Coeur d'Alene; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Hospice of North Idaho, the Hospice House, and Pacifica Senior Living for the care they gave our mother.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow, April 17, at Saint Helena Cemetery in St. Helena, Calif.
