Glacier National Park officials say the road to Two Medicine and a loop of the Two Medicine Campground are expected to be open by mid-day on Saturday, April 18. Services will be limited.

Located on the east side of the Park about 13 miles from East Glacier, the Two Medicine Campground will offer limited sites on a first-come first-serve basis. Water and restroom facilities will be available and the nightly camping fee will be $20. The recreational vehicle dump station will not be available.

Park superintendent Jeff Mow said snow conditions across the Park are varied and Park personnel are working to provide public access.

Two Medicine Lake is free of ice, but the boat dock will not be available and boat inspections for aquatic invasive species must be scheduled in advance by calling 406-888-7800. The general store will not be open.

The St. Mary Campground on the east side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road is open for walk-in campers only and closed to vehicle traffic through June 4. The campground will remain in primitive status, with no flush toilets and no water, during this time. Vehicles can be parked in the St. Mary Visitor Center parking lot about half a mile from the campground. The camping fee is $10 per night.

Primitive camping is available in the Apgar Picnic Area on the west side of the Park through April 30. The camping fee is $10 per night. The Apgar Campground is anticipated to open May 1. The Apgar Visitor Center is open on weekends from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Snowplowing crews on the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road are nearing Big Bend. Weather conditions at the higher elevations this week have limited plowing activities so crews have been busy working at lower elevations. On the east side, plow crews have reached Siyeh Bend and are working in the Many Glacier and Two Medicine areas.

The Sun Road is gated to motor vehicles at Lake McDonald Lodge area on the west side and the St. Mary Visitor Center on the east side. Hikers and bikers can use the Sun Road past the vehicle closures when plow and rehabilitation crews are finished for the day and on weekends or as posted. Travelers should be aware of icy patches on the Sun Road.
