ROYAL CITY - Wahluke High School baseball continued to exhibit improvement last Saturday, winning the first game of a doubleheader with the Royal junior varsity at Royal.

The Warriors took the first game, 9-4, behind the pitching of Felix Jimenez. Royal won the second game by a score of 14-2.

Jimenez pitched a complete game for Wahluke. He finished with 10 strikeouts and only 1 walk.

"Felix displayed excellent control today and started most of the hitters with first pitch strikes," coach Dan Oppelt said. "It makes a huge difference pitching ahead in the count."

The contest was tight until the bottom of the fifth inning, when Wahluke added three runs. The Warriors pulled away with another three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

"It was one of our better defensive games of the season," Oppelt said.

There were only three errors committed in the game between both teams.

The offensive standout for Royal was Sawyer Stakkeland, who went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Wahluke's seven hits were scattered between seven different players.

Game 2 was dominated by the Royal JV. Where game 1 was well played in the field, game 2 was error filled (8) and Royal capitalized on multiple Wahluke errors.

Royal's Irvin Cedillo pitched well and gave up only two runs in five innings. Corbin Christensen led the Knights at the plate, going 3-for-4, with one RBI.

Jesse Heredia went 2-for-3 for the Warriors.
