COEUR d'ALENE - About 50 models are preparing to walk the runway at the 3Cs (Cancer and Community Charities) 15th annual fashion show Monday, April 27, at The Coeur d'Alene Resort.
"Spring Into Fashion" begins at 11:30 a.m. The Dancing Queens, a group of 3Cs members led by choreographer Becky Lassiter, will entertain attendees before the show.
The clothing worn at the fashion show is donated from stores mostly in Kootenai County varying from big-box to local clothing stores. The models are women of all adult ages and sizes. Marie Widmyer, fashion show coordinator, is in charge of the models' wardrobes.
"That's why I think people enjoy it so much - because they can relate to it," said Angela Cross, fashion show chairwoman. "We get a lot of kudos from the stores because they get a lot of business because people will say 'I could wear that' and off they go to the store."
A silent auction and the "Glitz and Glamour" raffle are two other events occurring at the fashion show. The two big prizes this year are a $750 gift certificate to The Coeur d'Alene Resort and $750 in gift certificates from the stores that are in the fashion show. Cross said the first winner of the raffle has the option to choose which prizes they want.
"This year we're going to have a special scene in our fashion show of vintage clothing and we're going to honor women from the past who have contributed to Kootenai County," she said.
An average of 450-470 people attend the fashion show yearly, Cross said.
"Our entertainment is the big draw from the Dancing Queens to the fashion show," Cross said. "That's what people come for. It's just so much fun because they are everyday women and we never know what they are going to do."
Proceeds benefit about 26 Kootenai County nonprofit organizations. In 2014, the 3Cs gave $88,000 to the community.
"Everything that 3Cs does is fun, but it's also fun because it's giving back to the community and making a lot of people's lives a lot easier," said Marcia Saunders, 3Cs publicity chair.
Tickets are $45 and can be purchased by sending payment and a self-addressed stamped envelope to Fashion Show Tickets, P.O. Box 1274, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814. Payment must be received by Wednesday, April 22. Tickets can be held at will-call, but no tickets will be sold at the door.
Raffle tickets are $5 for "Glitz and Glamour" and can be purchased by contacting Sharon Reynolds at (208) 762-9959.
