POST FALLS - Connor Cardinel scored on a fielder's choice in the top of the ninth inning as the Coeur d'Alene Vikings rallied to beat the Post Falls Trojans 9-8 in the second game of a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader on Saturday at Post Falls High.

Reggie Nault went 3 for 5 with five RBIs in a 15-2 win in the first game for Coeur d'Alene (12-5-1, 4-2 5A IEL).

Jake Pfennigs went 4 for 4 with four RBIs in the second game for Post Falls (7-9-1, 0-6), which travels to Lewiston on Tuesday.

"I liked how we responded after the first game," Post Falls coach Dustin Frank said. "Jake did a great job of keeping us in the game. Our kids looked confident offensively in the second game, but just came up a couple of hits short. With Coeur d'Alene, if you don't make every play, you're not going to win the game. I was proud of our pitching staff for keeping us in the game."

Elliott Sparks had three RBIs in the second game for Coeur d'Alene, which hosts Lake City in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Lake City (8-7, 2-4 5A IEL) led 3-0 after four innings of the opener before the uprising by Lewiston (15-3, 6-0).

"I thought Stephen (Vaudreuil) threw really well for those four innings; they just had some stuff go their way in the fifth," Lake City coach Travis Georgius said. "In the second game ... Cody Garza, who hadn't thrown much all season, came in and threw really well (allowing two hits and one run in four innings)."

Jordan Ross went 3 for 5 in the second game for Lake City, which turned a triple play in the ninth. With Lewiston runners at second and third, first baseman Dominic Conigliaro snared a line drive, threw to Ross, the shortstop, covering second, and he tagged out the runner returning to the bag.
