A plow crew working through snow on the west side of Going-to-the-Sun Road is making its way around the Big Bend, reaching Riprap Point below Triple Arches on Thursday.

While Glacier National Park crews are working during regular weekday hours, hikers and bicyclists can currently travel about 12 miles up the road to Packer’s Roost.

After the crews are finished for the days and on weekends, hiker-biker access is unrestricted on the west. Those using the road are advised to watch out for icy patches that may remain.

Sun Road on the west side of Glacier is closed to vehicles at Lake McDonald Lodge.

Camas Road remains open to vehicle traffic, as well as portions of Inside North Fork Road up to Doverspike Meadow, Bowman Lake Road, Polebridge South Gate and Fish Creek.

The crew plowing from the east side of the Sun Road will resume work at Siyeh Bend on Monday after spending the past several days patching asphalt around the Swiftcurrent Ranger Station, boat ramp and helipad, as well as conducting routine maintenance on other road areas.

At the end of the day and on weekends, hikers and bikers may travel farther up the east-side road and use St. Mary Campground, but there is no vehicular access until at least June 4.

The campground can be accessed by the footbridge adjacent to the Visitor Center parking lot and the nightly camping fee is $10.

Primitive camping, for $10 per night, is allowed in the Apgar Picnic Area until April 30. Apgar Campground is expected to open May 1.

Many Glacier and Two Medicine Roads are open to vehicle traffic.
