Pug takes the rap; pit bull on the lam

Likely the best of friends, a pit bull and a pug were reported to be running at large near Van Sant Road. The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office responded and impounded the pug, which had one eye.

A dog leash couldn’t hold a horse at bay. It apparently broke free and was reported running through Evergreen. Deputies helped locate the owner.

Vandals took out five mailboxes along U.S. 2 West near Kalispell. Authorities suspected they were hit from a moving vehicle.

A dog bit a 13-year-old child during a bicycle ride. The child was taken to the hospital, and the dog was current on its rabies vaccination.

A man called dispatch and briefly requested a welfare check on a man lying in a yard on Zimmerman Road. Then the caller hung up. Deputies found the temporary yard resident to be in fine health.

Deputies searched for a suspicious man who was hanging out at a Bigfork playground. The caller said the man claimed to be with his young brother but didn’t know the child’s last name. 

A concerned citizen reported that some cows on Auction Road were eating insulation. One cow apparently got a mouthful.


Kalispell Police officers picked up a “really nice” bicycle that was lying under a Fifth Avenue West tree.

Police cited a woman who stole a curling iron from a Third Avenue East North business.

An Appleway Drive apartment manager said that somebody was smoking enough marijuana to fill up the commons area. An officer advised the caller of what he could do.

Another person who made a report of marijuana use wanted to remain “amonomos,” according to the dispatch translation.

Minor vehicle crashes were reported on East Oregon Street, U.S. 93 North, Eighth Avenue East North and First Avenue West. A woman in the last incident told officers she had pain in her ribs.

An officer met up with a “couple in a vehicle” and advised them to move along. There was no indication of what the couple was doing, but we can all speculate.


A bouncer at a Central Avenue business told the Whitefish Police Department that a 50-year-old man he kicked out kept coming back.

Some renegade kids on bicycles reportedly jumped out in front of an elderly man driving a pickup truck. The man followed them down East First Street while his granddaughter called police.


The Montana Highway Patrol pursued a man on a motorcycle until he ditched it on Shady Lane. He then tried to force his way into a motel room, but a woman reportedly pushed him back out. The man was arrested.
