POST FALLS - It's time for spring cleaning in Post Falls.

Free events are scheduled for today to help residents lighten their load. It's also an opportunity to give back to the community by helping at Black Bay Park.

There will be an e-recycling and medication take-back event at City Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Any area resident can drop off their TVs, computers, cellphones and other electronic items to be recycled. Free grocery bags, a garbage/recycling calendar, energy-saving light bulbs and toy totes will be distributed.

Most of the giveaways are funded with a grant from Post Falls Sanitation, while Avista Utilities donated the light bulbs.

Residents can also bring their unused or unwanted medications to the event and they'll be disposed of properly by the police department. Medications are not to be flushed down the toilet as that harms the environment. The turn-in also ensures that the medications don't get into addicts' hands.

A garbage pickup for Post Falls residents only will be held. Items should be placed at the street by 6:30 a.m. All items must be bagged, bundled or in a garbage tote. Items cannot exceed 4 feet by 4 feet. No furniture, tires, concrete, brick or hazardous material will be accepted.

Post Falls is also hosting a community park cleanup day. Those interested can register from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Black Bay Park, 1220 E. Third Ave. Duties include removing trash, waste and recyclables and pulling weeds from parks, greenways and trails. Project leaders and supplies will be provided. Work will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
