TUBBS: More to McTevia story
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years, 9 months AGO
Many of you may have read the article on the front page of Tuesday’s Spokesman, “CdA wheelchair access…”
It is about the untimely, tragic death of Tom McTevia.
Tom was a true gentleman, and I believe he would be uncomfortable with Doug Eastwood’s version of the events which led to the accessible trail now on the east side of Tubbs Hill.
Doug’s quote in this article is, “He wheeled into our office some years ago and asked why we didn’t have an accessible trail on Tubbs Hill.”
That half-truth should read, “He wheeled into our office some years ago and asked if he could help develop the Fernan Open Space from his perspective. I, instead, asked him what he’d think about getting on Tubbs Hill.”
Tom himself told me about that meeting with Doug as well as his thoughts, “Tubbs Hill? I thought no one could touch Tubbs Hill!”
Yes, Tom was a well-spoken advocate for this trail…but only because Doug Eastwood got the ball rolling that day in his office when Tom went to see him about Fernan Hill.
