Backcountry search continues for missing Ronan man

Multiple law enforcement agencies are scouring mountainous terrain in Sanders County in search of a missing Ronan man.
Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummel said on Wednesday that it has been a difficult effort as searchers wade through wild country near Dixon.
“At this point, it’s slow,” Rummel said. “We’re working with some pretty rough ground.”
They had 25 people and one dog on the ground on Wednesday, he said. Searchers are working through the area of Hewolf Mountain where Akers was last seen.
According to Rummel, Akers was with three others on a weekend trip in the area. Their car got stuck and they decided to leave on foot.
Sanders County rescue crews and Two Bear Air out of Flathead County found three of the people on Sunday. They said that Akers was still out there.
“Now our search centers on the missing young man, Troy Akers,” Rummel said.
Overnight temperatures have dipped into the 30s over the past few days.
Multiple agencies are assisting in the search, including search and rescue from North Valley, Flathead County, Sanders County, Lincoln County, Lake County and Missoula County. Two Bear Air and the Border Patrol also are involved.
Information in this case can be given to the Sanders County Sheriff’s Office by calling 406-827-3584.
