POST FALLS - A Hauser teen was extricated from a vehicle and hospitalized after a three-vehicle collision at Highway 41 and Mullan Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

Nicole G. Earling, 18, was in critical condition at Kootenai Health on Tuesday night.

According to Idaho State Police, Earling, driving a 2001 Subaru Forester, was attempting to make an illegal left turn from the Ross Point Hico gas station parking lot across a double yellow line onto southbound Highway 41 around 12:40 p.m.

The Subaru was struck by a northbound 1996 International Shane Campbell logging truck from Blanchard that was driven by Brian R. Remillard, 41, Spirit Lake. Skid marks at the scene showed where the semi attempted to stop for the Subaru.

According to ISP, Remillard attempted to swerve to avoid the crash and also struck a 2005 Kia Sedona driven by Phyllis Wellington, 68, Liberty Lake. The Kia was on Highway 41 and making a left-hand turn onto westbound Mullan Avenue when it was struck in the rear.

Neither Remillard nor Wellington were injured, according to police.

All of the drivers were wearing seat belts. Airbags were deployed in the Subaru.

ISP Master Cpl. Mike Johnson said motorists attempting to make illegal turns onto southbound Highway 41 from the gas station or Sonic has been a problem.

"These areas are right-turn only," he said.

Post Falls Police and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue assisted ISP at the scene. The Life Flight helicopter responded, but Earling was already being transported when it arrived.

Traffic in the area was delayed until 2 p.m.
