Burn permits now required
The Daily Inter Lake | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 9 years, 9 months AGO
Starting today, free permits are required for debris burning in Flathead and northern Lake counties.
The permits are required for open burning in May and June.
To obtain a permit, go to the Flathead Environmental Health office, visit www.firesafekalispell.com or call 752-7376.
People may burn natural, vegetative or agricultural debris but not manmade materials or trade waste. Call Flathead County Environmental Health at 751-8130 for information on how to obtain a trade waste burning permit.
Officials ask that people burning debris exercise care to prevent uncontrolled fires and have an emergency plan in place. Keep piles manageable and away from overhanging vegetation, check the weather forecast for windy conditions and do not leave a burning or smoldering fire unattended.
Debris burning is not allowed within the city limits of Kalispell, Whitefish and Columbia Falls
Debris burning is prohibited from July through September due to Montana’s fire season.
