WHITEFISH — Leadoff hitter Abbie O’Brien went 5 for 5 and Rebecca Knutson and Kylee Beccari combined on a 1-hitter as Flathead crushed Whitefish 28-0 in a nonconference softball matchup on Thursday at Smith Fields.

Flathead, 2-15 overall, banged out 17 hits and capitalized on 21 walks.

Kylee Beccari went 3 for 3 while Grace Cady, Kaycee Smith and Dana Van Luven had two hits each.

Kylee Meredith, 1 for 2, had five RBIs.

Meredith and Van Luven both had a double.

“The girls hit the ball hard,” Flathead coach Tasia Gates said.

“She’s (O’Brien) doing a great job for us.”

Gates also liked the effort turned in by her pitchers.

“I was impressed with both of them today,” she said.

“They pitched well.”

Grace Porterfield had the lone hit for Whitefish.

Glacier has a Western AA conference test today at 6 p.m. at Missoula Hellgate and closes regular-season play on Thursday hosting Glacier for a single game at 5 p.m. at the Conrad Complex.

Glacier 11, Polson 2

POLSON — Polson coach Larry Smith was impressed.

“Not only can she pitch, but she can hit,” he said of Glacier star Ali Williams.

The junior checked Polson on four singles and fanned 18 batters in seven innings in the circle. At the plate, she drove in three runs with a home run with a runner on in the third inning and doubled in another run in the fifth. She went 4 for 5. Glacier rolled to a nonconference victory.

“Any time you go to Polson and come away with a win, it’s a good day,” Glacier coach Andy Fors said.

“They are always well coached and very solid in the little things. We were fortunate to get the bats going today.”

It all started with leadoff hitter Christian DuFour. She tripled to right center on the first pitch.

“That set the tone for us and we were able to keep it going,” Fors said.

Glacier, now 14-3 overall, banged out 18 hits total. Kayla Russell, 3 for 5, and Emma Shew, 3 for 4, both doubled for the other two extra base hits.

Kaelen Wall, Lydia Dupuis, Skyla Krantz and Haley Fyant had one-hit each for Polson. Fyant singled in two runners in the bottom of the fifth with two outs.

Glacier has four games left on its schedule. The Wolfpack hosts Columbia Falls today at 3 p.m., Missoula Hellgate on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Libby on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The finale is versus Flathead on Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Conrad Complex.

“Their lineup has a bunch of good hitters,” Smith said of Glacier.

“They jumped on our inexperienced pitching.”

Fyant replaced starter Camas Renault in the fifth inning.

“She was able to quiet their bats a little bit,” Smith said of Fyant.

Polson plays at Frenchtown today in a key Northwestern A battle at 7 p.m.
