Watch for major changes in the northwest corner of Hayden Avenue at Highway 95.

Construction has started on a Maverik convenience store. The 4,254- square-foot building with multiple gas pumps should be complete in four to six months. The company started 80 years ago in Afton, Wyo., and now has more than 270 stores in 10 western states. Its headquarters is in Salt Lake City.

In addition to regular convenience store products, Maverik offers BonFire food made fresh daily including cinnamon rolls, breakfast sandwiches, burritos, hoagies, yogurt and beverages. The store will be similar to the Maverik outlet at 6415 N. Ramsey Road.

Veterinary office next door

Next door, in the north portion of the Rustlers Roost building at 9629 Highway 95, Dr. Holly Brophy will open Veterinary Specialty Services about Sept. 1.

Moving from Illinois to North Idaho "after falling in love with the area during a family vacation," Dr. Brophy has 10 years of veterinary experience and will offer companion and farm animal care. Jeanane Pryor will be the office manager.

Contact information will be available soon. Email is drhollybrophy@gmail.com.

Both of these developments were aided by Bill Robinette of Select Properties.

UPS stores on Government Way

The Post Box store at 2900 Government Way will become a UPS store Monday. Owners Josh and Rebekah Rogstad also now have the UPS store at 9323 Government Way in Hayden.

Services include packing and shipping via UPS and USPS, personal mail boxes, notary services, shredding, wide-format printing, gallery-wrapped canvas prints, banners and posters.

Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays Coeur d'Alene and 762-8800 in Hayden. Check www.upsstoreprint.com/6675 and /2859.

New owners at Peterson's

New owner of Peterson's Family Foods at 1211 Sherman Ave. is Sam Sidhu.

He came to the region from Los Angeles in 2009 and owns the Trent Harvest Foods in Spokane. Now with 11 employees here, he plans to add more as the business grows and changes to Lakeside Harvest Foods.

Bill and Cecilia Peterson, owners here for 25 years, have retired. Originally an IGA store and in business since 1938, the store is open 24 hours. Phone 664-9992.

Now for the Tidbits!

- Watch for news on ResCare HomeCare moving from Ironwood Drive to Northwest Boulevard, something happening with the property in the southeast corner of Sherman Avenue and Sixth Street, a hookah lounge at 2506 N. Fourth St., Pinot's Palette at 728 N. Fourth, Bulldog Lounge with smokes and beverages in Silver Lake Mall and a Premier Discount Store in Post Falls.

- The Estate Store at 1130 N. Fourth has closed.

- A Tidbits spy was unhappy with a local grocery store when an employee said the store had no policy regarding non-service dogs coming into the store with the owner. The spy observed a woman with three dogs in a shopping cart. Hmmm. Who wants to use that shopping cart? Maybe grocery stores need a "Service Dogs Only" policy and signs.

- Several readers commented on why gas costs 10 cents a gallon more in Post Falls than Cd'A. Most agree the customers will pay it rather than drive to Cd'A so the supplier will ask it.

- Those who get too big for their pants will be exposed in the end.

- A real headline: "Squad helps dog bite victim."
