Glass sculpture, yarn dyeing among museum classes

String art will be among the classes at the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center in August.

MOSES LAKE - Glass sculpture, string art, beading and yarn dyeing will be among the classes sponsored by the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center in August.
A class for adults who want to learn the basics of ceramics is scheduled for two Tuesdays and Thursdays, this week and Aug. 11 and 13. Class meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the museum classroom, 401 South Balsam St.
Linda Boswell is the instructor. The class will focus on hand-building and using a wheel, and the basics of glazing. Cost is $40 per person, per session, $36 per person, per session, for museum members.
All classes are at the museum classroom.
A class in making art from old plates, cups and glasses is scheduled for Wednesday. Participants have their choice of sessions at 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. or 7 to 9 p.m. The class is open to teens and adults 13 years of age and older.
Students glue the items together to creature sculptures. Raeann Katz is the instructor. Cost is $15 per person, per session, $13.50 for museum members.
A class in string art is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 14, and is open to teens and adults 13 years of age and older. Participants learn how to use nails and multicolored string to make abstract art.
Cost is $20 per person, $18 for museum members. Shawn Erin is the instructor.
Beading in the Huichol style is the subject of a class from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24 and 25. Class is limited to adults. Cost is $35 per person, $31.50 for museum members.
"The Huichol Indians in Mexico line the insides of gourd bowls with designs 'painted' in tiny beads," wrote instructor Freya Liggett. "This folk art style has expanded in modern times to cover many shapes." The class will teach participants the techniques to make their own mini-bowl.
A class in dyeing yarn is scheduled for Aug. 26. Two separate sessions are scheduled, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. It's for people 13 years of age and older. Katz is the instructor.
Students start with white yarn and learn how to turn it into variegated yarn "with a surprising, cool, unique dye source," Katz wrote. Participants take home a finished ball of yarn. Cost is $15 per person, per session, $13.50 for museum members.
