When news of Montana Skies' upcoming Coeur d'Alene concert reached Spokane, that city's symphony musicians let it be known they wanted to attend.

The musical duo will be performing "guitar.cello.fusion" Wednesday night at Live After 5, the weekly concerts held each summer at the corner of Sixth Street and Sherman Avenue.

"These guys are kind of the superstars of the orchestra world," said event organizer Tyler Davis. "It's something very different than what we've had at Live After 5 before."

The cost to attend is $5. Children 12 and younger are free.

Wednesday's opening act is Darin Schaffer, who will perform from 5-6:15 p.m. Montana Skies will take the stage at 6:30 and perform until 8:30.

Live After 5, in its third season in downtown Coeur d'Alene, offers live entertainment, often national acts, along with a beer and wine garden.

"It's a unique, family-friendly alternative that allows parents to enjoy an adult beverage while listening to world-class music, with their kids sitting with them on the grass," Davis said.

It's an experience not available in many places in the region due to local liquor laws, he said.

"You can do this at Sandpoint (during the festival), but at a much higher cost," Davis said.

The effort to create a professional concert experience that's affordable for families has proven successful. Davis said the shows attract 700-800 people who attend at least part of that week's concert.
